Description:The stark negative image reveals the skin of the caterpillar with its large head and approximately 12 visible body segments. The first three segments carry the true legs with pointed claws, segments 6, 7 and 8 carry the pseudopods with hooked pads to give traction. The head shows some of the biting and chewing mouthparts, eyes are small in caterpillars and are not readily visible here. The body segments are covered in hairs on the upper surface. Every body segment has two oval pores which are the breathing apertures. |
