Description:

Coming to the end of Fen Road, the flood breaks across a dip in the road, leaving an island right at the other end. Feeling your way for the higher part of the road with your wellington booted feet, you feel the gentle but very persistent drag even in this shallow water and are relieved to reach the higher ground again. The end of the road sign projects forlornly as a silhouette over the water, next to a barely visible part of the wall of the over-run sluice gate. The opposite river bank has now disappeared and the water stretches into the distance of the night, lit only by the yellow glow of cloud reflected city light.
