Emerging dragonfly at 14:03h
This beautiful adult seen from above reveals the distinctive venation of the powerful wings. I can place this in the genus Libellulidae, of which there are 14 British species. I have been in contact with the British Dragonfly Society who were able to identify this as a female Black-tailed Skimmer (Orthetrum cancellatum).
The adult was still resting and we expected it to wait sometime before flying.
