Description:Occasionally on our walk we came across 'stars' in the grass. The large (up to 10cm diameter) Geastrum triplex is a puff ball with sophistication! The central spore sac is surrounded by 4 to 8 fleshy pointed rays giving the characteristic star shape. A tap on the central sac causes small clouds of spores to puff out from the central opening. |
